The trip will begin in Mexico City, a vibrant cultural hub, where you’ll meet activists striving to create a more peaceful and secure future for their country. These organizers include María Herrera Magdaleno, who was recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2023. We’ll learn about María’s courageous work to stop the epidemic of forced disappearances that has devastated hundreds of thousands of families.
You will then travel to Oaxaca, one of the country’s most enchanting cities, surrounded by rolling hills and world heritage sites. There, we’ll meet Indigenous activists who are defending and protecting Zapotec and Mayan communities from commercial mining, landfills and threats to their water rights. These include EDUCA and activists fighting to secure the right of Indigenous communities to manage their water resources in perpetuity.
