Jewish Justice Giving Day is coming – and today we’re spreading the love

On February 26, AJWS is participating in the first ever Jewish Justice Giving Day!

It’ll be a moment where Jewish people across the country will join together to act on our tradition of tzedakah in support of the urgent pursuit of social justice. AJWS and lots of powerful Jewish organizations are mobilizing our communities to declare in one voice: social justice is a core Jewish value, and as we’ve proven time and time again — we’re willing to fight for it.

More than 30 Jewish organizations have banded together to create Jewish Justice Giving Day — all doing different work with the same key mission: to make the world a better place for all. We’re honored to be among such incredible company!

So in the spirit of this exciting, unifying Jewish movement (and nodding to today being Valentine’s Day), we want to show some love to our friends at these amazing social justice organizations. We asked our staff to tell us which Jewish Justice Giving Day groups inspire them. Check out their answers below — and see the full list of JJGD participants here!

headshot of Alexis“I support the New Israel Fund because it aligns with my Jewish values, particularly the principle of “בְּצֶלֶם אֱלֹהִים” (b’tzelem Elohim), which teaches us that every individual is created in the image of G-d and deserves dignity and respect. NIF’s commitment to advancing equality, freedom, and minority rights reflects this belief, fostering a society where all inhabitants can thrive. By empowering communities and building coalitions for social change, the New Israel Fund embodies the transformative potential of faith and action in creating a more just and inclusive Israel for everyone. headshot of Neely“I’m proud to support Keshet, an organization that works for LGBTQI+ equality in all facets of Jewish life. Through advocacy actions, community mobilizing, training Jewish communal leaders, and hosting safe and celebratory gatherings, Keshet is creating a world where LGBTQI+ Jews feel welcomed, included, and affirmed within the Jewish community. As queer and trans rights are under attack in the U.S., this work is more important than ever. Join their movement at keshetonline.org.”

Neely Grobani, Director of Donor Engagement

headshot of Jamie“My year in Avodah’s Jewish Service Corps helped launch my career in the progressive Jewish world, and I credit them for shaping me into the professional and community member I am today. They are training Jewish youth for lives of action and seeking tikkun olam, building a network of change-makers around the world. Learn more about them at avodah.net!”

headshot of Justin“While we’re watching Trump try to tear down our own democracy, Bend the Arc gives me hope in the resistance. They don’t mince words in their Jewish values-based progressive advocacy against U.S. policy that empowers a white nationalist agenda — and they refuse to let our community be gaslit by fear-mongers who seek to weaponize anti-Semitism. Their movement of Jews and allies is multi-racial, multi-ethnic, intergenerational and proudly progressive. Check them out here: bendthearc.us.”

Justin Jacobs, Associate Director of Storytelling

headshot of Ross“I’m excited to support the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) because their Jewish values-based work to expand abortion access and protect civil and human rights domestically has never been more urgent. Every day, reproductive and religious freedoms come more under attack here in the United States, and NCJW is fighting back. Check out their great work to advance social change through a Jewish lens at ncjw.org.”
