AJWS takes a feminist approach to research that aims to challenge patriarchy and achieve gender justice. We support our partners to study the context and nuance that is crucial for making human rights programs more effective—and ultimately improving people’s lives.
Feminist research is an iterative process that requires thoughtful and open engagement between researchers and participants over time. To achieve greater impact, AJWS’s research grantmaking strives to be flexible and responsive to the needs of partners engaging in research—supporting activities that help them increase the use of new findings, for example.
AJWS supports research that:
- Identifies actionable feminist practices in India that can be used to foster gender-transformative change in people’s lives and communities
- Deepens our understanding of the lives of women and girls
- Helps grassroot organizations make use of lessons learned from their work with women and girls
