Rabbi Michael Siegel

A graduate of Hiram College, Rabbi Michael Siegel was ordained in 1982 by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America where he received his Master of Hebrew Letters. He came to Anshe Emet in 1982 as Assistant Rabbi and was named Senior Rabbi in 1990. Currently, he serves on the Executive Board of Mazon: A Jewish Resource to Hunger; the Executive Board of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, as well as on the Board of Interfaith Families and the Board of Directors for Lakeview Pantry: Food for Today; Hope for Tomorrow. Rabbi Siegel is also one of the leaders of Magen Tzedek. He and his wife, Janet have been blessed with four wonderful children: Joseph, Rebecca, Deena and Emma.

Last year, I visited Haiti with American Jewish World Service (AJWS). We visited displaced persons camps where, years after the 2010 earthquake, thousands of people still live in shelters made from tattered tarps tied to wooden posts. What became clear in the midst of the squalor was that women bore the majority of the responsibility for their households. They and their children were also exposed to tremendous physical danger in the camps—from abuse to sexual violence to rape.
