Devastation in Indonesia:
Survivors Need Your Help
On September 28th, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia and triggered a tsunami that tore through the western coastline. Waters rapidly rose 20 feet, sweeping away houses and burying entire villages in mud and debris. In minutes, people lost absolutely everything.
Today, 5,000 people remain missing — trapped underneath the rubble and debris. The death toll is now over 2,000, but it is sure to climb. An estimated 200,000 people need urgent aid, and over 70,000 people have been left homeless. The destruction is staggering.
Right now, our community of Jewish global citizens is standing up to help the people of Indonesia. We are working with local organizations to provide immediate humanitarian aid. Your generous donation will enable these grantees to:
- Distribute relief packages for mothers with young children and babies
- Establish a community center and free kitchen run by local women
- Empower youth and women’s groups to lead recovery efforts for the most vulnerable communities
The time to act is now. Your generosity will save lives.
*If we receive donations in excess of funds needed for Indonesia disaster response, please know they will be used to support AJWS’s work worldwide to help communities recover from disasters, alleviate poverty and fight injustice.
