American Jewish World Service Names Mania Boyder Vice President for Development

New York, NY; October 3, 2012— American Jewish World Service (AJWS), the only Jewish organization focused solely on empowering people in the developing world to end poverty and realize their human rights, has appointed Mania Boyder to serve as its vice president for development. Boyder, who has more than 30 years of experience in leading strategic fundraising efforts for major charities, will bolster support for AJWS’s global efforts.

“Mania is a passionate and highly effective development professional who will strengthen AJWS’s ability to support grassroots community groups and advocates in the developing world,” said AJWS president Ruth Messinger. “Mania’s experience in creating and carrying out ambitious and highly successful fundraising initiatives as well as her commitment to our mission and work make her the ideal leader to build support for AJWS.”

Boyder has directed fundraising programs at several large national and international nonprofit organizations, including JDRF, formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, ORBIS International, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Variety Clubs International. Prior to joining AJWS, Boyder served as the executive vice president of development at JDRF, where she directed efforts to raise over $48 million in contributions and over $128 million through special events.

As a child, Boyder was forced to flee her native Egypt with her family to escape religious persecution. Her experience as a refugee has played a powerful role in forging her commitment to human rights. “In Mania, we have found a high caliber leader who will ensure that we grow our support at a pace that matches our deep commitment to our global work,” said AJWS executive vice president Robert Bank. “Mania’s childhood experience as a refugee from persecution has made her a passionate advocate for human rights and an ideal ambassador for AJWS as it expands and deepens support for its work in Africa, Asia and the Americas.”
