AJWS Responds to the California Synagogue Shooting

American Jewish World Service is “more committed than ever to fighting violence motivated by anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry.”

Robert Bank, President and CEO of American Jewish World Service (AJWS), issued this statement:

“We are shocked and saddened by news of another horrific attack on an American synagogue, this time in California as worshippers celebrated the end of Passover. We are holding the Chabad Jewish community of San Diego in our hearts.

“Today’s tragedy comes just six months after the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting  – the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in American history. The motivation appears to be similarly rooted in anti-Semitic and racist views that have proliferated in recent years.

“While we are heartbroken by today’s news, we are more committed than ever to fighting violence motivated by anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry. Rooted in Jewish values, we support the vulnerable and oppressed and advance a vision of the world in which people of diverse backgrounds live in dignity and respect. We must all join together to heal our broken country, and our broken world.”
