AJWS President Ruth Messinger: “We Look Forward to Working with the Obama Administration”

New York, NY; November 7, 2008—Ruth W. Messinger, president of AJWS, today issued the following statement congratulating Barack Obama on his historic victory in the 2008 presidential election.

“We are thrilled to have an incoming president who has voiced a passion for the pursuit of social justice around the world,” Messinger said. “These are challenging times for humanity. Hunger is on the rise, the HIV/AIDS pandemic threatens the existence of communities across the developing world, impoverished nations are saddled with debt that prevents tens of millions of people from reaching their potential and innocent people are still being slaughtered in Darfur and elsewhere due to their ethnicity.

“We look forward to working with President-elect Obama’s administration to promote global citizenship and human rights and to once again make the United States of America the international beacon of hope it should always be.”
