AJWS Announces Jewish Community Engagement Fellowship

Applications for First “AJWS Presidential Fellowship” Due May 23rd

New York, NY; May 3, 2010—American Jewish World Service (AJWS), an international development and human rights organization, has announced its new Presidential Fellowship. The twelve-month, highly competitive fellowship offers a recent college graduate the unique opportunity to accompany AJWS president, Ruth Messinger, on her professional travel, including speaking engagements in Jewish communities throughout North America (and, possibly, international travel associated with conferences, study tours or service trips).

The Presidential Fellow will work in AJWS’s Department of Education and Community Engagement to help expand and deepen AJWS’s relationships within the North American Jewish community. While traveling with Messinger, the fellow will collect data about communities, record community requests for further programming, explore new ways to connect with constituents and identify new partnership opportunities to strengthen AJWS’s mission to make global justice a focus of American Jewish life and identity.

“AJWS is searching for a fellowship candidate that is passionate about mobilizing the Jewish community around social justice,” said AJWS’s vice president of programs, Aaron Dorfman. “We are confident this fellowship will mutually benefit the organization and the individual we select. The fellow will not only receive mentorship from Ruth Messinger, one of the most respected leaders in the Jewish community, but will learn about the connection between the Jewish faith and human rights and how to energize thousands of people around this relationship.”

Applications for the Presidential Fellowship are due no later than Sunday, May 23rd. Please view the complete job description.
