Announcing AJWS Global Justice Fellowship Cohort

We are so excited to introduce this year’s cohort of AJWS Global Justice Fellows. This selective program—which includes international travel, advocacy on Capitol Hill and online seminars—is designed to train and empower American rabbis as skilled advocates for human rights, in order to amplify our Jewish vision of a more just world for all.

The leaders and activists in this cohort come from across the United States and represent a diversity of Jewish denominations. They are rabbinic activists fighting for racial justice, immigrant justice, LGBTI rights, workers’ rights—and more. You can read their biographies here and find their names and photos below.

Our fellows’ dedication to social justice embodies our deepest values at AJWS—as Jews and as citizens of this world. One of our incoming fellows, Rabbi Jill Perlman, articulated this poignantly:

“Judaism is about confronting the challenges of the world rather than hiding from them. There are those that believe that our faith communities should be sanctuaries from the outside world, especially politics. My belief is that the core of Judaism pushes us beyond our four walls; we become fuller human beings when we engage as global citizens.”

We are excited to announce that next year’s fellowship will run from October 2019 through April 2020, with an orientation in NYC on October 28-29, 2019, international travel from January 12-19, 2020, and a convening in Washington, D.C. on March 17-19, 2020.
