Irit Houvras is AJWS’s Director for Strategic Learning, Research and Evaluation. In this capacity, Irit is responsible for overseeing the monitoring and evaluation of AJWS’s work. She oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of effectiveness indicators that assess the performance of programmatic initiatives; refines and implements our operational structures, systems and evaluation tools; and supports AJWS staff members in enhancing their capacity to lead evidence-based, effective and accountable programs. Irit has worked in global health for over 15 years. She has expertise in M&E, qualitative research, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights. As a researcher and technical advisor, she has contributed to program development, implementation and evaluation. She has worked internationally with community-based organizations, national and multi-country programs, and has held long-term assignments in Bangladesh and Nepal. She has made it her mission to help demonstrate results and identify lessons learned to advance programming, and improve people’s lives. Irit earned an MPH in international health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and a BA in anthropology and studio art from Beloit College.
