Emma Nesper Holm is the Director of AJWS in Southern California and oversees AJWS’s fundraising and programming in Los Angeles and the greater Southern California region. Emma has more than 10 years of experience working in the fields of international education, global health and human rights. Before joining AJWS in 2013, Emma developed policy and public health communications to expand access to maternal health medicines in developing countries with Venture Strategies Innovations. She holds an M.A. in African studies from UCLA, and a joint B.A. in journalism and mass communications and anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While pursuing her master’s degree, Emma worked for the Globalization Research Center-Africa and served as co-chair of the African Activist Association. She also interned for Human Rights Watch’s Student Task Force in Los Angeles and Tostan, an AJWS grantee in Senegal. Emma is an avid runner and CrossFitter and lives in Los Angeles with her husband and son.
