Emergency in East Africa
East Africa is currently experiencing its largest humanitarian crisis since 1945. A crippling multi-year drought, exacerbated by climate change and violent conflict, is putting millions of people at risk of imminent starvation. Children are facing food and water shortages, livestock are rapidly dying, and rising food prices have caused families to go without meals and sell their belongings.
AJWS’s East Africa Crisis Fund is providing immediate and long-term support to communities in South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda that have been hit hardest by drought, malnutrition and conflict. The fund will help communities access food, clean water, psychosocial support, and peacebuilding programs to mitigate unrest in the region caused by struggles over scarce food and resources.
