Urge Congress to Suspend U.S. Military Funding to Honduras
On June 21st, The Guardian reported that Berta Cáceres, a champion of human and environmental rights in Honduras and worldwide, appeared on a hit list distributed to U.S.-trained special forces units of the Honduran military months before her death. This list, which featured the names and photographs of dozens of social and environmental activists, was given to two elite military units with orders to eliminate each target.
This news has confirmed our worst fears of organized state-sponsored efforts to silence defenders of human rights through targeted assassinations in Honduras.
As Americans, and as Jews, we cannot stand idly by in the face of this horror.
Tell the U.S. Congress to suspend military aid to Honduras until the brutality against Honduran human rights defenders ceases.
Our tax dollars cannot be used to support the re-emergence of death squads in Honduras.
