International Rivers

Organization

  • International Rivers
  • Seeking to protect the world's rivers from destructive dams and amplify the voices of dam-affected communities, a small group of volunteers formed International Rivers in 1985. Their goal was to develop a worldwide network working to protect rivers and promote just development. International Rivers' work over the past quarter century has contributed to a sharp decline in the global rate of large dam construction along with a corresponding increase in awareness of the need for just and sustainable water and energy solutions. It has also strengthened respect for the rights of dam-affected communities where dams have been, and are being, built.

Project

  • Movement Building among Dam-Affected Communities
  • Purpose: To promote movement-building efforts among communities affected by dam-building projects in Asia, Africa and the Americas by providing strategy development support, technical assistance, information and network-building support.
