Global Strategic Allies

To increase the number of funders and amount of funding available to support the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people globally by supporting the Global Philanthropy Project's initiative to disseminate information, facilitate information-sharing sessions and build networks of grantmakers supporting LGBT rights.

To advance the rights of people with disabilities in Asia, Africa and the Americas by supporting small grants to and facilitating convening among disabled people's organizations.

To support the East African LGBTI movement by strengthening skills, methods, strategies and tactics for change through the development of a curriculum and implementation of movement-building boot camps.

To support Front Line's Personal Security and Risk Assessment training program for at-risk HRDs.

To support grantmaking, advocacy and communication efforts to promote resource rights and food sovereignty in the Americas.

To organize two exchange initiatives for grassroots organizations supporting community-led struggles against forced eviction and land-grabbing driven by large-scale dirty energy projects. These forums will help the organizations build capacity and will strengthen movements for energy development that respects human rights. As a “Collegial Partner” of AJWS, IAP will include AJWS’s grassroots grantees in these activities, helping reach our goal of building a stronger, more united land rights movement in India and Southeast Asia.

To support grassroots organizations and social movements—in particular those working on natural resource rights—to build alliances that will strengthen and support their work by providing capacity-building opportunities, communications facilitation, opportunities for mutual learning and security support.

To promote movement-building efforts among communities affected by dam-building projects in Asia, Africa and the Americas by providing strategy development support, technical assistance, information and network-building support.

To further social, political and economic policies in favor of the regional food sovereignty agenda by launching the first leadership school for farmers in the Caribbean region, organizing solidarity brigades to countries that criminalize social leaders, strengthening and building a political cadre of leaders, shaping advocacy strategies and campaigns, and systematizating data on agrarian policies.

To support the launch of the Red Umbrella Fund, enabling it to make grants to and provide other support to sex worker organizations worldwide. As a collegial partner of AJWS, RUF will link AJWS’s grassroots grantees to new resources and opportunities, introduce AJWS to new grantees, and build collaboration between the activists AJWS supports and other potential funders.

To build sustainable, secure human rights organizations in Asia, Africa and the Americas by providing security training, information and accompaniment for human rights groups.

To stop and modify dam projects that are affecting and displacing local communities by ensuring that people affected by dams have access to legal defense and proposing alternatives that will enable communities to regain their land.

To sustain women's human right defenders and advance women's rights in Africa by providing rapid response grants and facilitating collaborative initiatives regarding the rights of women and security and the well-being of women's rights organizations.

To promote the security and well-being of women human rights defenders by providing rapid response grants in situations of increased violence, insecurity or precedent-setting legal opportunities to women's human rights organizations working in Asia and the Americas.

To support a 'Video for Change' network among organizations working on natural resource rights and sexual health and rights, and build resources and training programs to support its work.
