A member of Ayiti Kale Je (AKJ), a consortium of Haitian media organizations, AlterPresse is an alternative news agency founded in 2001 that provides honest reporting to Haitian and international audiences about complex issues facing the country. It also seeks to increase the participation of Haitian citizens in economic, social and political decision-making and increase transparency and accountability in the reconstruction of Haitian society after the earthquake.

Reconstruction and Aid Monitoring in Post-Earthquake Haiti
To enable a media watchdog to conduct reporting about the reconstruction process and disbursement of humanitarian aid and to build the capacity of partner organizations and journalists to improve journalism in Haiti.
