Kwataniza Women Farmers Group (KWG)
KWG was created in 2006 in western Uganda to improve the socio-economic status of women in Buseruka sub-county and to raise awareness about the need for environmental protection and land rights in the community. In Uganda, cultural attitudes prevent women from being able to own and make decisions over land, and widows are sometimes evicted from their property. Women are particularly vulnerable given the prevalence of oil speculation and land grabbing in the country. KWG also works with youth, people with disabilities and those living with HIV/AIDS.
