Formed in 1984 and expanded in 1990 to include an independent health department with expertise in sexually transmitted infections and reproductive health, ACI provides services to local citizens and consultation and training activities in a number of surrounding African countries. It has played an integral role in developing Senegal’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Poles of Excellence: Training Community-Based Actors in the Response to HIV/AIDS
To strengthen the work of 41 community-based organizations responding to HIV/AIDS through trainings on self-esteem, reproductive health, treatment adherence and organizational development; to create a forum to optimize information sharing through 246 focus group discussions; and to train local leaders to contribute to the fight against stigma and discrimination toward people living with HIV/AIDS.
