Sustainable Development Institute (SDI)
Founded in 2002, SDI is currently leading the debate about community rights to natural resources in Liberia and works to strengthen implementation of land laws so that forest communities can achieve their rights. While forest-dwelling communities have gained legal recognition of their right to participate in the management of forests and to earn a percent of all revenue from commercial logging on their land, corporations and the government haven’t complied with these laws, and communities have yet to truly benefit.
