Persons Marginalized and Aggrieved (PEMA Kenya)
PEMA was founded in 2008 in response to the death of a gay man who had been shunned and stigmatized by members of his family due to his sexual orientation. Through community education and advocacy, PEMA aims to reverse discriminatory attitudes and reduce harassment and violence against LGBTI people in Mombasa, creating an environment in which all individuals have access to safety and basic rights.
