OPDP was founded in 1999 with an aim of protecting the culture and constitutional rights of Kenya's indigenous Ogiek people. It promotes cultural identity, health, education, care for the environment, land rights and other human rights.

Supporting Indigenous Peoples' Natural Resource Rights
To support the Ogiek indigenous community to gain control over the natural resources that local people depend upon for their livelihoods by creating a "bio-cultural" community protocol and raising awareness about the human impact of forest conservation.
