Democratic Republic of Congo

Youth Actions on Human Rights (YAHRI)

YAHRI was founded to address the gap in programs responding to the specific needs and rights of girls in eastern DRC. YAHRI works in two territories of South Kivu to reduce the incidence of sexual and gender-based violence among girls by providing education about sexuality and reproductive rights, and by lobbying to bring perpetrators of violence to justice. YAHRI also raises awareness in secondary schools about the dangers of unwanted pregnancies and early marriages, and works to challenge gender norms in the community that negatively affect the rights of girls and young women.
