SOFEDI was created in 2005 to address the needs of women victimized by gender-based violence and living with AIDS in conflict areas of DRC. SOFEDI provides free voluntary HIV testing and home-based counseling, and conducts outreach and sensitization programs to address and reduce gender-based violence and stigma due to HIV/AIDS.
Project
Voluntary HIV Screening Center
To continue to prevent HIV in South Kivu through free and voluntary HIV testing and psychosocial support for 2,500 people; to start a vegetable garden and enable 20 women survivors of gender-based violence and living with HIV/AIDS to improve their livelihoods by training them how to grow mushrooms; to use garden proceeds to support prescription costs of the most vulnerable women and people living with HIV/AIDS; and to receive skills training in risk assessment and security management to enhance the protection and security of SOS Sida staff and beneficiaries.
