Program Costs and our Funders
Program Fee*
Program fees for Volunteer Summer 2010:
$4,000 for college-aged participants
$5,500 for high school participants
Transportation
Transportation for the international component of the program (travel to New York and then to the country of service) as well as for domestic retreats (up to $500 for each retreat) is included in the program fee. Any extra travel costs incurred due to personal travel must be paid by the participant.
Accommodations
The cost of accommodations (rustic, communal living, usually without running water) is included in the program fee. The cost of accommodations for the domestic retreats (usually at retreat center or hotel) is also paid by AJWS.
Visas
The cost of obtaining a visa, if one is required, is included in the program fee. AJWS arranges for all visas for participants.
Health Insurance
In the case of a medical emergency, all participants receive emergency evacuation assistance and medical referrals through International SOS, a well-respected medical assistance provider. International SOS does not pay for the cost of medical care, however; therefore, participants must have their own health insurance that covers the cost of treatment while overseas.
Medical Preparation
Participants are responsible for speaking to their doctors regarding any preventative medical treatments (immunizations, anti-malarial pills, etc.) prior to travel, and are financially responsible for these costs.
Fundraising
AJWS believes that fundraising is an integral skill to gain as a social changemaker and an excellent way for participants to engage others in their work. We encourage you to seek outside funding for your program fees. In addition, as part of the domestic component of the program, participants are expected to personally donate $36, and to raise a minimum of $360 to support AJWS. AJWS provides fundraising trainings and tips to participants, and staff members are available to assist with creative fundraising strategies.
*A note on the program fee: The cost to participants for Volunteer Summer only reflects a portion of the actual cost of the program. AJWS is grateful to the following funders, whose support enables us to keep the cost to participants at a minimum:
