Scholarships
Acceptance to AJWS Volunteer Summer is need blind and scholarships are available.
Scholarships
Applicants interested in applying for scholarships may do so when they apply to the program. To prepare, please be sure to have your IRS tax form 1040 from last year (and that of a parent or guardian if you are financially dependant).
Please note: AJWS scholarships will not cover the entire program cost. We ask that all scholarship recipients take an active role in raising funds to assist in paying for the program. This is in addition to the fundraising requirement for all participants (See Program Costs).
In addition to AJWS-funded scholarships, we are pleased to offer the following scholarships.
Sarah Rose Horowitz Memorial Fund Scholarship
Sarah Rose Horowitz was born on January 4, 1964, in London, England. She was born with a chromosomal anomaly called Turner's Syndrome, which is hallmarked by a variety of anatomical problems. Sarah was also born with an astonishing will and ferocity for justice. She dedicated every waking moment of her 44 years to making life richer and more fulfilling for everyone around her. Sarah was a true champion, a warrior and a believer.
This fund has been set up to assist other champions in their quest to bring education, spirituality, love, and strength to others in the world, so that we may continue to deliver Sarah's spirit of giving and justice to the far corners and that we may keep that spirit alive within ourselves.
To Apply:

Eric A. Shapiro Memorial Fund Scholarship
The Eric A. Shapiro MD Fund was started by Dr. Shapiro's family in his memory. Dr. Shapiro wanted to leave the world a better place than he found it, and he devoted his life to tikkun olam professionally and personally. He always gave his best to everyone who touched his life, including his family, friends and patients.
The Shapiro family has chosen American Jewish World Service to honor this remarkable man who was taken from the world too soon. In order to realize his dream to make the world a better place, the Shapiro family has set up this scholarship fund for a Volunteer Summer participant who has an interest in medicine or public health.
To Apply:
In a 500-word essay, please describe your commitment to tikkun olam and domestic or international medicine and/or public health issues. (Application forms for scholarships are available within the financial aid application.)
This is a merit-based scholarship. To apply, you can upload your essay to the scholarship application online.
