Since 2004, AJWS has sent delegations of rabbinical students to developing countries in order to work alongside human rights organizations and learn about global justice from the perspective of Jewish tradition. Over 200 students have participated in these special service learning trips. For many, their trip has been life changing and career defining, having a profound effect on how they learn and teach Torah, understand themselves and act in the world. Thanks to a generous grant from the Einhorn Family Charitable Trust, we are now able to extend this program to include a delegation of early-career rabbis.

In August 2012, the third delegation for early-career rabbis (five to 15 years post-ordination) will travel to Ghana to work and learn with one of AJWS’s grassroots grantees. Together, we will experience first-hand the power of grassroots development explore issues of social justice and global responsibility from the perspective of Jewish texts and tradition. To learn more about one YRD participant’s experience in Ghana, please read the following reflection by Rabbi Zoe Klein.

Please view the information session below to learn more about AJWS Young Rabbis’ Delegation.

Upon return to the U.S., participants will join a growing community of talented and passionate rabbinic alumni who have traveled with AJWS. This community provides an active forum where rabbis and rabbinical students are engaged in building Jewish communities with a commitment to social justice.

The program fee for the Young Rabbis’ Delegation is heavily subsidized at $375, and applications are due Monday, December 5, 2011. Please note that this fee does not cover inoculations/medications that might be needed.
