Information for Grantseekers
Thank you for your interest in applying for a grant from AJWS. Please note that AJWS is not accepting letters of inquiry (LOIs) for 2010. Our funds for 2010 are fully committed, with any new grants being made to organizations that we have already identified through referrals and outreach. Please check back in late 2010 for information about our 2011 grantmaking plans. We wish you every success in securing funds for your program.

AJWS FUNDS: non-governmental and community-based organizations in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia working in the following thematic areas:
1. Sustainable Livelihoods and Sustainable Development
Building the capacity of grassroots organizations to attain economic and environmental sustainability, promote fair labor standards, and raise the social status of women and marginalized communities to meet their basic needs
Areas we fund:- Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity
- Food Security
- Land and Resource Rights
- Economic Opportunities
- Slum and Urban Development
2. Community Health
Ensuring that communities achieve minimum standards of health through increased access to services, community engagement in disease prevention and control, the promotion of reproductive health and rights, and the elimination of gender-based violence
Areas we fund:
- HIV/AIDS care and support, anti-stigma efforts, and advocacy
- Disease prevention and control through health education and nutrition with a focus on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria
- Reproductive Health and Rights
- Maternal and Child Health and Rights
- Efforts to strengthen community and government health systems
- Violence Prevention
3. Education for All
Facilitating access to quality primary and secondary education for all
Areas we fund:
- Access to government and non-formal education with a focus on retention for girls and orphans and vulnerable children
- Improving the quality of education, including teacher training, curriculum development and fostering community engagement and oversight of schools
- Vocational and literacy training for youth and adults
- Early Childhood Development
4. Community Response to Conflict and Emergencies
Supporting local organizations affected by disasters and conflict to move toward peace and development
Areas we fund:
- International and community-led disaster response, preparedness and risk reduction
- Psychosocial support for affected communities
- Disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of combatants, particularly children
- Women and youth-led peace-building and economic empowerment efforts
- Transition from disaster to development in the areas of sustainable livelihoods, community health and education for all
5. Community Voice: Civic and Political Participation
Facilitating community participation in the debate and design of policies and programs that affect their lives, prioritizing groups for which securing civil and political rights is a necessary stepping stone toward development.
We fund policy advocacy and community mobilization efforts that are led by community-based organizations working for:
- Women’s Rights
- Indigenous Rights
- Religious and Ethnic Minority Rights
- Sexual Minority Rights
- Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Rights
- Farmer and Worker Rights
- Youth and Adolescent Participation
- The Rights of People with Disabilities
- The Rights of People Living with AIDS
AJWS will prioritize support for groups that are working on policy change in the four program areas listed above: Sustainable Livelihoods and Development, Community Health, Education for All and Community Engagement In Conflict and Emergencies.
