Travel with AJWS to Liberia

A unique way to see the world; where your presence will make a difference.

Join AJWS on a unique journey focused on the power of women to bring about global change. This special trip was inspired by our deep pride at the recent awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to AJWS grantee Leymah Gbowee, who mobilized women to help bring an end to Liberia’s civil war. Come with us to meet Leymah, visit her organization—WIPSEN-A—and discover a nation with a complex past and newfound optimism.

This intergenerational Study Tour will explore the great strides Liberian women have made since the war toward restoring stability and fostering progress. As we travel through the slums of urban Monrovia and across coastal fishing towns and lush rainforests, we will connect with grassroots leaders who are building a new future for Liberia by advancing the health, civic and political rights of women and adolescent girls.

To help frame our experience in the context of Jewish social justice and women’s empowerment, we will be joined by Ms. Magazine co-founder Letty Cottin Pogrebin for a trip charged with dialogue and reflection.

Watch Leymah Gbowee, 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner and director of AJWS grantee, Women Peace and Security Network-Africa (WIPSEN-A), speaking at AJWS’s 25th anniversary celebration.
